HALIFAX WATER ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP

Halifax Water announces Leadership Change Halifax – March 4, 2024 – Halifax Regional Water Commission confirms that Dr. Tareq Al-Zabet has resigned from his position as CEO and General Manager effective immediately. The Commission wishes Dr. Al-Zabet success in his future endeavours. With Dr. Al-Zabet’s resignation, Kenda MacKenzie P.Eng has been appointed Acting General Manager for Halifax Water. Currently, the Director of Regulatory Compliance, Ms. MacKenzie, has been with the utility for over fifteen years. “The Board respects Dr. Al-Zabet’s decision; we wish him well and thank him for his work at Halifax Water,” said Colleen Rollings, Chair of the Halifax Water Board of Commissioners. Ms. MacKenzie’s appointment is effective immediately. She will focus on ensuring that Halifax Water continues to supply high-quality water, wastewater, and stormwater services to its customers and safeguard the environment. “We are fortunate to have a highly skilled executive team and employees passionate about the utility’s success. With Ms. MacKenzie’s leadership and experience to help guide the organization, we know that the utility is in good hands,” says Chair Rollings. With an interim leadership plan in place, the Board will now focus on the next steps required to fill the General Manager position permanently. –
