Halifax Harbour – Screened Combined Wastewater/Stormwater Overflow
(July 19, 2022) Halifax Water would like to inform residents of an emergency pump failure in the wastewater system resulting in screened combined wastewater/stormwater flowing into the Halifax Harbour.
It is strongly advised that residents and visitors should not go swimming or participate in recreational activities that require water contact in Halifax Harbour until further notice. We have made the applicable federal, provincial, and municipal entities aware of this incident.
Halifax Water crews are planning emergency repairs while a replacement pump is sourced.
We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary infrastructure repair work may cause and are working as safely and quickly as possible to address the issue.
To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.
