Haligonia.com

I’m writing today from sunny-then-rainy-then-sunny-then-rainy Winnipeg, Manitoba.  If you’ve never heard of it, Winnipeg can be found just about smack in the middle of Canada.  It’s flat here.  Which is a comforting reminder of Holland.  Winnipeg (apparently from the Cree word for “muddy waters”, wi-nipe-k) sits on the  huge Red River.  This river occasionally and catastrophically floods.   Winnipeg and is affectionately known as Winterpeg, Manisnowba by Canadians.   Because the winters are so brutal.  Plug in your car, watch your nose for frostbite, record breaking -57 degree (-70 with windchill) cold.  But the summer is equally extreme, with hellish heat and humidity.  Many people I’ve met on my adventures around the globe seem to think that CANADA is synonymous with COLD.  Which is true.  In the winter.  But WE HAVE SEASONS.  A scorching summer in Winnipeg, or geez, TORONTO will quickly alter that erroneous belief.

But enough about the weather.  I’m in Manitoba right now because I’m visiting my brother and his wife for a few days.  This is before I drive 2 hours south to a teeny speck of a 1 mule town called Gretna (seriously, 10 streets in Gretna) to record the Canadian Chamber Choir’s first professional CD.

But enough about Manitoba, I’m here to talk to you a bit about Halifax.  More specifically, I’m here to talk about a funky new Halifax-based news site called Haligonia.   It’s targeted to Haligonians, and weirdos like my husband (who is obsessed with all things Nova Scotian).  Haligonia picked up my blog a couple of months ago and now, in exchange for linking to my blog (see it here!), I have added their link in the form of their logo on my own site.  See the white “h” with the clock in it sitting to the right of this post?  That’s them!
