Back to School = Homework

Need some homework help? Or maybe you’re looking for a great book to read? This fall, give Homework Help a try. From the halifaxpubliclibraries.ca page, click on the Kids @ the Library icon. There, you’ll find Homework Help, a place where you can chat online with youth services library staff during library hours. Your parents and teachers can chat with library staff as well. If the library is closed, you will be prompted to e-mail your question. We’ll try our best to answer your e-mail within 24 hours. Homework Help offers access to online resources, including World Book Online. You’ll also find lots of reading ideas and links to other websites that can help you with your homework.

Celebrating Mi’kmaq Heritage

The Story of the Bedford Basin

Gordon Fader will give an illustrated presentation about the seabed and geological history of the Bedford Basin. The imagery of the Bedford Basin clearly shows shipwrecks, waterfalls, former beaches, islands and military installations. Learn the history of how humans have interacted with the natural processes in the Bedford Basin.

English Language Learning (ELL)

Get help with your English language skills at volunteer tutor programs sponsored by Halifax Public Libraries and the Nova Scotia Department of Immigration.

The programs are free and open to:

-Permanent residents of Canada;
-Canadian citizens born outside of Canada (though services to recent immigrants to Nova Scotia will be given priority);
-Protected persons as defined in Section 95 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
-Foreign nationals temporarily residing in Nova Scotia who have been nominated(received Certificate of Nomination) under the Nova Scotia Nominee Program and their dependants.

Musical Munchkins

Ages 3-5
Take Symphony Nova Scotia musicians, add preschoolers and you get a fun and interactive introduction to music and movement! After the musicians introduce their instruments the children will experience different styles of music through movement, games and a dancing finale.
