Heads Up Halifax event to promote crosswalk safety on Nov. 4

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is once again putting a spotlight on the importance of crosswalk safety through its Heads Up Halifax campaign, and the second annual Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day being held on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Tomorrow, community members including police, councillors and residents will volunteer their time to show their support and help raise awareness of the importance of safe travel in and around crosswalks.

Volunteers will be dispersed throughout the municipality at dozens of high-traffic crosswalks and intersections during the morning commute from 8:30-9:30 a.m. A map detailing the locations of crosswalk captains and volunteers is available online at www.halifax.ca/headsuphalifax/CrosswalkSafetyAwarenessDay.php.

Volunteers will be sharing crosswalk safety tips and information with residents, and handing out Heads Up Halifax promotional giveaways including stickers and high-visibility gloves and toques.

Crosswalk captains and volunteers will also be hosting a crosswalk safety celebration in Grand Parade Square from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., which will feature greetings from Mayor Mike Savage, performances by the UNITY dance crew, complimentary drinks and snacks, members of The Bounce Morning Show, crosswalk safety demonstrations, and prize draws. All are welcome.
