Healthy Kidz in Greystone receives funding for three more years

The Family SOS and Healthy Kidz program, which is based in the Greystone neighbourhood, recently sent me their newsletter. It’s a bit large for me to attach the entire PDF, but I’ve copied some excerpts below. For more info, get in touch with Family SOS, at 455-5115 or familysos@eastlink.ca (www.familysos.ca).

-“We would like to say a great big thank-you to the United Way Metro Region and to everyone who donates to the Community Fund. For the first time in our history, we have been approved through the community funds grants for 3 years of renewed funding for our two Healthy Kidz/Teenz sites: Greystone in Spryfield and our Gottingen Street location at the Community YMCA. With the knowledge that these programs are secure for now, we can focus our fundraising efforts on other initiatives.”

-“Another thank you goes out to the Metro Regional Housing Authority. With the growth of our Healthy Kidz Program in Spryfield came the need to expand our site. With the help of MRHA, we were able to move to a much larger space which meant a relocation from Lemon Walk to Cranberry Court.”

-“Healthy Kidz celebrated their tenth anniversary on November 27th 2010 with an art exhibit at the Rec Centre in Greystone. Participants, staff and volunteer parents worked tirelessly to put this gala together. We also received assistance from Lynette de Montreuil, a NSCAD art student who volunteered to facilitate this event. The art work of children and youth in the Healthy Kidz program from both the Gottingen and Greystone sites was displayed…throughout the month of December, the artwork was displayed at 5 Halifax Public libraries, some of which were later used as decor and centrepieces for this year’s Courage to Give Back awards.”
