Heavy Rainfall Warning (Posted 10:30am Nov 18)

Via Environment Canada:

Today, expect substantial rainfall across most of Nova Scotia, beginning in the morning in western areas and extending eastward to Cape Breton by evening. The heaviest rain, reaching 10 to 15 millimetres per hour, will occur late this afternoon and evening. Western regions will see rain easing this evening, while eastern areas will experience it overnight. Total rainfall may range from 50 to 70 mm, with some locales potentially receiving up to 100 mm.

Elevated water levels near high tide late tonight are a concern for Atlantic coastal communities in eastern Nova Scotia. Similar weather patterns in the past have led to hazardous driving conditions due to water pooling and localized flooding, particularly in areas with poor drainage. The risk of flash floods and water pooling on roads is high, and there’s a possibility of flooding in low-lying areas. Be cautious of potential washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts.

Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for significant expected rainfall. Keep updated with alerts and forecasts from Environment Canada, and report severe weather by emailing NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or using the hashtag #NSStorm on Twitter.
