Heroic actions of citizens save life of motorist – Upper Rawdon

On Saturday morning at 11:15 a.m., East Hants District RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 14 in Upper Rawdon.

Prior to emergency services arriving, motorists driving by observed the vehicle off the roadway on fire and pulled over to assist. Initially due to smoke, they were unable to see if the vehicle was occupied. The individuals determined that there was an occupant trapped in the vehicle. Through their quick actions, including breaking a door window, they were able to remove the occupant from the vehicle which was quickly being engulfed in flames.

‎”We want to thank those brave individuals who took it upon themselves to pull over and help during such a dangerous situation,” says Cpl. Calvin Byard. “Without a doubt, their actions saved the driver’s life.”

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 30-year old man, suffered serious injuries, and was transported by EHS LifeFlight to the QEII Hospital in Halifax.
