HRP release:

Halifax District RCMP has arrested three youths following an incident where an irritant was deployed inside a school lobby in Upper Tantallon.

This morning, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Halifax District RCMP, EHS and Fire responded to an incident at Bay View High School on Scholars Rd. RCMP officers learned that two youths had assaulted another youth outside of the school. When the altercation transitioned inside, the third youth deployed an irritant.

The three youths and two school employees suffered minor injuries and were treated by EHS at the scene. Additional individuals, present in the lobby at the time of the incident, may have experienced minor symptoms consistent with cross contamination of an airborne irritant.

The three male youths were safely arrested at the scene and the incident was targeted in nature.

Shortly after 12 p.m., the hold and secure, initially a lock down, was lifted.

The youths have since been released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Justice Court on December 21, 2023. Two of youths will face a charge of Assault while the third will face an Assault with a Weapon charge.
