Highway 103 crash claims two lives

Halifax District RCMP is investigating after a single vehicle collision occurred at 4:19 p.m. yesterday afternoon on Highway 103 outbound near exit 5 in Upper Tantallon.

The initial investigation determined that the 2012 Dodge Ram truck rolled before coming to rest on the highway. Two of it’s occupants were ejected from the vehicle. As a result, a 20-year old man, of Halifax, and a 21-year-old woman, of Cole Harbour, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old man, of Dartmouth, was transported to the QEII via EHS Lifeflight with life threatening injuries. The driver, an 18-year-old woman, of Dartmouth, was treated at hospital and later released.

Halifax District RCMP, Chester RCMP, EHS, Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, and Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal attended and the highway remained closed until 1 a.m. this morning.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene to examine it for evidence. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
