Highway 103 Incident: 19-Year-Old’s License Suspended for Speeding

On October 25, 2023, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s (RCMP) Southwest Traffic Services pulled over a vehicle on Highway 103, near Upper West Pubnico. The vehicle was traveling 71 km/hr above the speed limit.

The driver, a 19-year-old from Shelburne, received a fine of $2422.50 for stunting. This violation is recognized as driving carelessly or intending to perform a stunt. Given the high speed, the authorities deemed the behavior reckless.

In addition to the fine, the driver’s vehicle was seized, and his license was suspended for 7 days. Such measures are enforced to deter repeat offenses and ensure public safety.

RCMP Southwest Traffic Services reminds drivers of the importance of adhering to speed limits. Speeding endangers the driver and other road users. The message from the authorities is clear: “Slow down.” The risks of speeding outweigh any potential time saved.
