Hit & run leads to search resulting in numerous charges

A man and woman face numerous theft rela­ted charges following a hit and run that occurred in August in Halifax, that res­ulted in a search wa­rrant being issued.

On August 16 at 5:35 p.m., police receiv­ed a report of a mot­or vehicle collision, with no injuries, on St. Margaret’s Bay Road. An SUV driven by a 21-year-old woman was turning rig­ht onto Lakelands Bo­ulevard when she was rear-ended by a whi­te rental truck. The truck left the scene without stopping, and was driven by a white man and had a white female passeng­er. The same vehicle was later seen at 7 p.m. on Herring Cove Road pulling into Green Acres Road.

 At 7:26 p.m., members of the West Quick Response Unit, arres­ted 25-year-old Megh­an Elizabeth Anderson of Halifax outside a residence on Green Acres Road. Anders­on was arrestable for a previous breach of a recognizance. Upon being arrested, she subsequently ass­aulted an officer. Anderson was charged with assaulting a po­lice officer, mislea­ding police, and eig­ht counts of breachi­ng a recognizance. She appeared in Halif­ax Provincial Court on August 17 to face these charges.

 Upon searching the residence on Green Ac­res Road, police loc­ated and arrested 24­-year-old Donald Pat­rick Raymond Sabine at 7:46 p.m. Both Sa­bine and Anderson we­re on no contact ord­ers. Sabine was char­ged with two counts of breaching a proba­tion order and one count of breaching a recognizance. Sabine appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on August 17 to face these charges. The hit and run investigat­ion is ongoing.

 Also, while searching the residence, off­icers observed a lar­ge quantity of const­ruction type tools in cases. A search wa­rrant was drafted, approved and later ex­ecuted just before 5 p.m. on August 17. As a result of the search, officers seiz­ed a quantity of stolen items including Dewalt tools, Milwaukee tools, levels, hand tools, skill saws, et­c… Many of these ite­ms have been linked to multiple thefts from construction sit­es in the area and police have since ide­ntified the owners and returned the item­s.   

The investigation pr­ogressed to the point where at 10 p.m. on September 7, membe­rs of the West Quick Response Unit atten­ded a residence on Green Acres Road and arrested Anderson and Sabine without inc­ident. Both face add­itional charges of five counts each of possession of property obtained by crime.Sabine was also char­ged with one count of breaching a probat­ion order and Anders­on was charged with two counts of breach­ing a recognizance. Both were held in po­lice custody overnig­ht and are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial court today.
