Holiday fire safety

As the holidays approach, fire departments across the country are warning people about accidental fires caused by falling asleep with lit cigarettes or cooking after consuming alcohol.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, impairment from alcohol use may be the strongest independent factor resulting in death from fire.

The effects of alcohol may result in a failure to notice the smell of smoke or hear a smoke alarm. Escape from a fire can be further impaired by the loss of motor coordination and mental clarity, even when warning signs are heeded.

Please celebrate this Holiday Season safely.
