Home invasion, robbery and sexual assault: Charges laid

Halifax Regional Police has charged a man in relation to a home invasion and robbery that occurred in Halifax yesterday.

At approximately 3:05 p.m. police were called to a robbery that had just occurred in the area of Hunter and Cunard streets in Halifax. Shortly before 3 p.m. a man approached a woman in a parked vehicle in the area of South Street and offered money in exchange for a drive. The woman then drove the man to the area of Cunard Street. Two women inside the home were confronted by the suspect who produced a brick and broken bottle before confining them in a bedroom. The man threatened, physically assaulted, and sexually assaulted the women. The two women fought the suspect and escaped. The man then fled the residence. The women were taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. officers arrested the suspect who was hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 2300 block of Hunter Street.
