Housekeeping Amendments Formalize New Government Structure

Amendments introduced today, Sept. 30, will update legislation to reflect the government realignment earlier this year.

Several acts were revised to update the names of departments and formalize the new responsibilities for ministers.

The realignment, announced in March to provide better service to Nova Scotians, included:
— Municipal Affairs becoming its own department, including the Emergency Management Office and the Office of the Fire Marshal
— establishing Service Nova Scotia as an Office
— combining the Department of Finance and Treasury Board Office into a new department
— forming the Department of Internal Services, bringing together divisions and services from various departments

Housekeeping amendments were required to several pieces of legislation, including:
— the Collection Agencies Act
— the Community Interest Companies Act
— the Consumer Creditors’ Conduct Act
— the Co-operative Associations Act
— the Emergency Management Act
— the Executive Council Act
— the Finance Act
— the Fire Safety Act
— the Gaming Control Act
— the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission Act
— the Income Tax Act
— the Liquor Control Act
— the Members’ Retiring Allowances Act
— the Petroleum Products Pricing Act
— the Public Procurement Act
— the Public Service Act
— the Public Service Superannuation Act
— the Real Estate Trading Act
— the Residential Tenancies Act
— the Revenue Act
— the Securities Act
— the Sydney Steel Corporation Sale Act
— the Teachers’ Pension Act
— the Theatres and Amusements Act

The new structure has been in place since April 1.
