Housekeeping Amendments Reflect New Government Structure, Update Department Names

The province introduced housekeeping amendments to the Executive Council Act (amended) and Public Service Act (amended) today, Dec. 5, to create the Treasury and Policy Board and update recent changes to department names and mandates.

These changes had been approved by Executive Council and were previously announced.

Specifically, the amendments:
— update the Executive Council Act and Public Service Act to be consistent with the change of name and mandates for the Departments of Education and Early Childhood Development and Finance and Treasury Board and the Office of Planning and Priorities.
— remove the chair of Treasury Board from the Executive Council Act as the Treasury Board Committee and Treasury Board Office no longer exist.
— repeal provisions relating to Treasury Board, Policy and Priorities Committee, and Economic Investment Committee.
— establish the Treasury and Policy Board and set out its objects and mandate.

Other housekeeping amendments will update the Executive Council Act (amended) to correct a reference to the Lieutenant Governor and amend the provision relating to acting ministers to allow for retroactive appointments to be consistent with the provision for acting ministers in the Public Service Act.
