I’ve been blogging for about 4 years, and when I started I had no idea what I was doing, or what I wanted to do, but also I had no idea how much it would change my life.
Blogging has brought me so many great experiences, friendships, and opportunities, and I just can’t imagine my life without it.
With a little flash back, and some studio pics from a shoot I did with the very talented, Matt Corkum a few years ago I’m candidly chatting all about how blogging has changed my life.
Blogging, and fashion blogging in particular certainly makes you see your self in a new light. Constantly photographing, styling yourself, and being “on display” can bring a lot of different feelings and emotions. It’s funny though because with blogging you are really putting yourself out there, and in doing so, you are really quite vulnerable. You would think that having so many eyes on you would make you more nervous and more critical of yourself, but to be quite honest the opposite has occurred for me.
You might not know this blog reader, but when I was in junior high school I was very insecure and shy (if you can believe it). I have very few photographs of myself as a teenager because I would duck anytime the camera came my way. It’s probably difficult for you to imagine this because it’s so far from where I am today, but it’s absolutely true. It kind of makes me a little sad in way, to think that I was so unhappy with the way I felt I looked that I didn’t want any record of it even if that meant not being able to create tangible memories with my friends.
Fast forward to now (late 20‘s) and things are a little different. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t still have insecurities as I think it’s only human to do so, but if anything blogging has been a truly liberating experience for me. Over the years I have learned to kind of roll with the punches (as they say), and except myself and embrace who I am.
I look back now at some of my outfit choices (even from the last year) and laugh, but that’s kind of the fun in all of this isn’t it? I think the more I blog, the more I experiment with fashion, style, and beauty products because I’m aware of how quickly it changes, and to me I’d rather give it a go now and see how it goes than regret that I hadn’t.
Because I am in front of the camera quite a bit these days I think I make sure to take care of myself a little more than I would otherwise. I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle by being mindful of what I put into my body while keeping active (hello 5 dance classes a week), but no one is perfect. I mean I have a mad addiction to kettle cooked chips, and I do enjoy a glass of vino (or two) on the weekends.
As a result of what I do now I also make sure to use really great skincare lines to make sure my skin is healthy, but I also know that it has a lot to do with what’s going on with the inside of your body. I make sure to maintain a great relationship with my family doctor, naturopath, osteopath, and massage therapist. It’s so much more than a vanity thing, and much more about taking care of myself; so I have the confidence to get myself through this crazy thing we call life.
The fashion and beauty blogging community has been very supportive, and the digital community that I am a part of has provided me with a tremendous amount of support and encouragement to do better and be better, and for that I feel truly blessed.
Thanks so much for being a part of this journey with me dearest blog reader, I know some of you have been with me since the beginning and for that I am truly grateful, and I hope that this blog is just as inspirational, and motivational as it to me.
Stick around for more food, fashion, fun in the years to come blog reader! I don’t always Hustle, but when I do: it’s everyday!
