how to aesthetically blackout a window?

I’ve also tried “blackout curtains” the type with the white sides that are pretty thick, but light still shows through the panel tabs up top and also around the seams and edges. I’ve only got about another month or two of sun before it’s pitch black from 3:30pm-10:00am but if I don’t figure something out for the remaining sunny months mama’s gonna be cranky.
