HRP: Celebrate responsibly on St Patrick’s Day 🍀

Halifax Regional Police is asking everyone who plans to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend to do their part to ensure their celebrations are safe and responsible.

HRP will have a presence in the community throughout the weekend to help keep everyone safe. Officers will focus on community safety and quality-of-life issues including alcohol-related infractions, noise complaints, property damage and motor vehicle violations.

We are advising people that unsafe and disruptive actions will not be tolerated. Our approach always starts with engagement, however, officers will take enforcement action if necessary, including issuing tickets and laying charges. It is important to remember that warnings do not have to be given prior to enforcement action being undertaken.

We encourage residents to contact police to report community safety and quality-of-life issues in their neighbourhood. Call 911 if someone’s life or property is at immediate risk, and 902-490-5020 to have an officer respond to the scene for an in-progress incident.

As always, we remind people to never drive impaired. Plan ahead – use a designated driver, call a cab or ride-sharing service, take public transit or stay overnight.

Reckless behaviour puts individuals at risk, causes safety hazards for many in the community and puts a strain on emergency services resources. We ask everyone to be a responsible neighbour this weekend and keep yourself and others safe.
