HRP Investigate Suspicious Circumstance – Dartmouth

Halifax Regional Police is advising the public about suspicious circumstances that occurred this weekend in Dartmouth.

On Saturday, April 9, officers responded to a complaint about an elderly white man in a gold-coloured car who followed a woman and her child in the area of Victoria and Albro Lake Roads at approximately 1:45 p.m. that afternoon and asked them if they wanted a drive. The woman refused and kept walking with her child. The woman also reported that she had seen the same man and vehicle a number of other times in the area in the week and half prior to Saturday’s incident. On several of those occasions, he asked her if she wanted a drive but she refused.

As part of the investigation, officers later identified the man responsible for the suspicious behaviour and spoke to him to advise that, although legal, his offers are unwanted. While he suggests he made the offer only out of kindness, he agreed to stop this practice immediately. Police cannot release the man’s identity as he has not been charged with a criminal offence.

Police remind citizens not to follow strangers or offer rides to them as it could make people feel uncomfortable to be followed and/or approached in this way. Similarly, people shouldn’t accept rides from strangers as it could be dangerous to get in a vehicle with someone you don’t know.

Anyone who encounters suspicious circumstances should contact Halifax Regional Police at 902-490-5020 as the incident is occurring or immediately after.
