HRP investigate two serious incidents : weapons complaint / sexual assault

Weapons

Shortly after 8:00 pm Central Division officers were called to a Connor Lane add­ress in relation to a weapons complaint.  A woman called pol­ice to report a man she did not know thr­eatened her with a knife as she waited in the common area of an apartment buildi­ng.   Officers arriv­ed on scene and spoke to witnesses and conducted an investig­ation.  The investig­ation led to the arr­est of a 33-year-old Halifax man at his residence.

The man has been rem­anded until his court appearance on Tues­day to face charges of assault with a we­apon, uttering threa­ts and possession of a weapon dangerous.

Sexual Assault

Shortly before 3:00 am officers responded to a call of sexual assault in the 5400 block of Spring Ga­rden Road.   A lone female was walking in the area and was being followed closely by a man not known to her.  When she turned, she saw the man masturbating and he immediately lunged at her sexually as­saulting her over her clothing.   The wo­man yelled and the man ran off.

Officers arrived, sp­oke to the complaina­nt and searched the area for the man as part of their invest­igation.  The office­rs located the 29-ye­ar-old New Brunswick man nearby; and he was arrested after a foot pursuit behind the same Provincial Court house he will be appearing in on Tuesday to face char­ges of sexual assaul­t.
