As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.
During the month of January, there were 23 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Month over month, this represents a decrease from the 32 incidents reported in December 2015. Year over year, there was a slight decrease (-1 incident) from the 24 incidents reported in January 2015.
Over fifty-two per cent (12 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions in January occurred in crosswalks compared to 41 per cent (10 incidents) for January 2015. Of the 23 pedestrians involved:
• 2 reported no injury
• 17 experienced minor injuries
• 2 experienced moderate injuries
• 2 did not report their injuries to police
