Week of 20 April: unsettled

After a fine weekend. the coming week will be unsettled.

Today will be fine, with clouds increasing over western sections ahead of an advancing frontal system.

 This system will spread rain and gusty southeast winds very gradually across the region on Tuesday.  It’s possible the precipitation will start as a wintry mix, especially in northeast New Brunswick.

Rainfall totals with Tuesday’s system will be in the 15 to 25mm range with 50mm totals possible along the Atlantic Coast of SW Nova Scotia .. Local flooding is still a concern, especially where snowpacks remain in place.

The rain will not reach Cape Breton until Tuesday night, then taper to showers Wednesday morning. The East winds will keep temperatures cool, so the rainshowers may be mixed with snow (or may even fall in the form of freezing rain over high ground).

Meanwhile some clearing can be expected over much of New Brunswick, central and western Nova Scotia on Wednesday, allowing afternoon temperatures to climb into the teens inland.

 

 

On Thursday another band of showers will move into the region, spreading very gradually eastward during the day and overnight. Still a possibility of wintry mix over Northern New Brunswick.

By Friday, there’s quite a bit of uncertainty… other than unsettled conditions likely to continue.

 

A Low pressure system may develop south of Nova Scotia Saturday…. may or may not affect the Maritimes… stay tuned:
