(Updated) Human remains located in New Minas

The RCMP can confirm that the human remains located near Jones Rd. in New Minas yesterday is that of a 29-year-old man who was reported missing from Kentville.​ A man reported seeing a body in the Cornwallis River just after 10 a.m. on May 16. The missing man had not been seen since March 23 in Kentville, and was reported missing on​ March 24.​

The RCMP was assisted in this investigation by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service and Kentville Police. Police and the Medical Examiner have determined the death was not suspicious in nature.

At 10 a.m. today, Kings District RCMP received a report of found human remains of a male individual near the end of Jones Rd. in New Minas. RCMP members attended the area and were able to retrieve the remains from the Cornwallis River.

The RCMP is working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service and an autopsy will be conducted. The remains have not been positively identified. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Kings District RCMP in conjunction with the Kentville Police Service.
