A Halifax man faces human trafficking, sexual assault, child pornography and a multitude of other charges after an investigation by the Special Enforcement Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.
On April 2, 2017, investigators commenced an investigation regarding a man who directed and influenced a fourteen-year-old girl, a sixteen-year-old girl and seventeen-year-old girl for the purpose of prostitution.
On April 6 at 7:45 a.m. a search warrant was executed on Quartz Drive in Halifax where a man was arrested without incident. Forty-four-year-old Duncan Robertson Wright will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following charges;
- Human trafficking of a person under the age of eighteen x 2
- Sexual assault x 3
- Sexual interference
- Invitation to sexual touching
- Receiving material benefit from sexual services x 2
- Material benefit from trafficking a person under the age of eighteen x 2
- Householder permitting sexual activity x 2
- Making child pornography x 2
- Distributing child pornography
- Possession of child pornography x 2
- Keeping a common bawdy house x 2
Human trafficking is an offence that involves controlling, forcing, intimidating or deceiving a person in order to exploit them through various forms of sexual exploitation or forced labour. This crime can happen in communities of all sizes and unfortunately Halifax is not immune.
