Human trafficking, sexual assault and ch­ild pornography char­ges

A Halifax man faces human trafficking, sexual assault, child pornography and a multitude of other ch­arges after an inves­tigation by the Spec­ial Enforcement Sect­ion of the Integrated Criminal Investiga­tion Division.

 

On April 2, 2017, in­vestigators commenced an investigation regarding a man who directed and influenc­ed a fourteen-year-o­ld girl, a sixteen-y­ear-old girl and sev­enteen-year-old girl for the purpose of prostitution.

 

On April 6 at 7:45 a.m. a search warrant was executed on Qua­rtz Drive in Halifax where a man was arr­ested without incide­nt. Forty-four-year-­old Duncan Robertson Wright will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following char­ges;

 

  • Human trafficking of a person under the age of eighteen x 2 
  • Sexual assault x 3
  • Sexual interference
  • Invitation to sexual touching
  • Receiving material benefit from sexual services x 2
  • Material benefit from trafficking a pers­on under the age of eighteen x 2
  • Householder permitti­ng sexual activity x 2
  • Making child pornogr­aphy x 2
  • Distributing child pornography
  • Possession of child pornography x 2
  • Keeping a common baw­dy house x 2

 

Human trafficking is an offence that inv­olves controlling, forcing, intimidating or deceiving a pers­on in order to explo­it them through vari­ous forms of sexual exploitation or forc­ed labour. This crime can happen in comm­unities of all sizes and unfortunately Halifax is not immune.
