‘Hunters Helping The Hungry’ To Fill Empty Bellies This Holiday Season

The province's Department of Natural Resources announced this morning that it's 'Hunters Helping The Hungry' program will supplement the needs of hungry Nova Scotian's in support of Feed Nova Scotia.

In its sixth year, the program allows licensed hunters to donate deer and moose meat to the food bank, by taking it to any participating registered meat cutter in the province and letting them know how much they would like to contribute.

Lean and high in protein, moose meat and venison can be an important alternative for struggling families who are unable to afford a turkey or chicken from their local supermarket. According to a statement released by Natural Resources, over 3,553 kilos of meat were donated to Feed Nova Scotia over the past five years.

We'd like to know how you help spread the Christmas spirit, Haligonia: Do you donate to the food bank? How can we encourage people to contribute year-round? Would you prefer wild game/venison over turkey at the holidays? Which is more sustainable?
