ID theft charges against pair attempting to access bank accounts

Police have charged two people in relation to three incidents of identity fraud in the region last week.

On August 25 at approximately 3:30 p.m. police responded to a fraud in progress at the TD Bank at 1475 Bedford Highway.  A man and a woman who were in possession of fraudulent identification and documents attempted to gain access to a person’s account.

Through the investigation, officers learned that earlier in the day the suspects had tried to gain access to two additional accounts, using fraudulent identification and documents. These accounts belonged to two other individuals at other TD Bank locations in Halifax and Dartmouth. 

The suspects were not able to gain access to the accounts and were arrested at the scene without incident.

Hashim Hussein, 29, appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on August 26 to face charges of:

  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (x 3)
  • Fraud under $5,000
  • Identity fraud to avoid arrest
  • Make or possesses identity documents
  • Obstruct police

Nadina Campitelli, 47, appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on August 26 to face charges of:

  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (x 3)
  • Fraud under $5,000 (x 3)
  • Identity fraud to gain advantage (x 3)
  • Identity theft (x 3)
  • Make or possesses identity documents (x 3)
