Impaired driver arrested at finish line of road race

While a running event was taking place in Cape Breton this past weekend, RCMP were alerted by the event’s traffic safety officer of a possible impaired driver. The driver had been operating her vehicle on the wrong side of the road and police located her near the finish line of the event, where several hundred spectators and runners were located. No one was hurt.

The driver was taken to Ingonish RCMP detachment and a breath test was conducted. Her blood alcohol level was nearly two times the legal limit, and she is now facing charges of Impaired Driving, and Driving with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg%. She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Wagmatcook Provincial Court on July 4.

The investigation is ongoing.
