At approximately 11:53 a.m. on Sunday morning, Halifax District RCMP responded to a 911 call from a concerned citizen of a possible impaired driver on Highway 103 in Upper Tantallon. The vehicle was reported as swerving and driving in to oncoming traffic.
At 12:01 p.m. the suspect vehicle, a 2007 Honda Fit, was located and a traffic stop was conducted. Upon approaching the vehicle the officer observed the male driver and a small child was in a booster seat in the back seat. The investigation determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol resulting in breath tests confirming he was more than double the legal limit.
A 39-year-old man from Dartmouth is facing charges for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80 mg%. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date to answer to these charges.
The investigation is continuing.
