In Spryfield and need help over the holidays?

Hi everyone,

We are coming up on the Christmas holidays so fast…enough time for one last post. To start off, this can be a pretty stressful time and if you do need some help, I cannot post this enough times:Â

The Spryfield Helping Tree: http://www.cdha.nshealth.ca/system/files/sites/4002/documents/helping-tree-chebucto-cht.pdf

If you need help with housing, food, furniture, clothing, healthcare, mental healthcare, education, childcare, or pretty much any other social service, someone on that page should be able to help you.
Â

In other news, here are a few notes:

The Halifax Regiol School Board has put out a tender for structural upgrades to Central Spryfield Elementary. See it here:Â http://www.hrsb.ca/sites/default/files/documents/tenders/3728.pdf
But I hope you know how to read an architectural drawing!

The 4th annual Kyle Henneberry Memorial Hockey tournament will take place at the Lions Rink on Dec. 26-31st. The organizers are seeking cash or in kind contributions, all proceeds support Chebucto Minor Hockey. For more information contact peter.mowat@ns.sympatico.ca or ecains@eastlink.ca

St. Paul’s will be getting a new minister soon. Last week I was speaking with Reverend Catherine Macdonald, who currently works at the United Memorial Church on Young street in the North End. She will be moving churches and is excited to learn more about Spryfield.

Pavia Gallery, which opened its first store in Herring Cove, just went through a major expansion and hired 40 people to work in its two new branches at the Halifax Central Library. If you haven’t been to Central yet, just go. You have to see it. Pavia is also doing the following fundraiser for the YWCA:

“This New Year’s Day individuals will come together to form a very special swim team in an effort to raise over $5,000 for the YWCA Halifax. For the second year in a row our friends at the Pavia Gallery, along with some special guests, will brave the North Atlantic Ocean on New Year’s Day all to raise awareness and funds for the YWCA Halifax. The event will be held January 1, 2015. at 12:00 noon at The government Wharf in Herring Cove. Registration at St. Paul’s Parish Hall, start at 9:30 am.”

Speaking of the YWCA, those good people have prepared some frozen turkey dinners that can be picked up free by families in need at the Chebucto Family Centre until Dec. 24 at noon. The centre is open 9-5 on Herring Cove Rd, call 902-423-6162.

Have a wonderful holiday and best wishes for the New Year!
