Having a little boy who’s sensitive to artificial flavors and colors leaves hardly no room for store bought treats, including chocolate bars. Organic brands are good for leaving out the chemicals, but they’re still packed full of sugar. I came across a recipe for making your own sugar free healthy chocolate syrup and one of the readers left a comment with a recipe for healthy chocolate bars! What a perfect treat for my little boy to enjoy and for mom and dad to have that little piece of something sweet after dinner.
I switched up the recipe a bit and here it is. Takes less than 5 minutes to make, has only 5 ingredients and will be ready for you to devour in 20 minutes. It’s extremely rich, so just a few little bites is all you’ll want.
But it’s healthy. For real.
– 1/4 cup cocoa powder
– 2 tbsp honey (more or less)
– 1/4 tsp sea salt
– 1/2 tsp vanilla
Melt coconut oil in a sauce pan over medium-low heat.
Remove from the heat and have your 4 year old wisk everything together. Taste to see how you like it.
More honey = sweeter with lots of honey flavor. Less honey = a darker tasting chocolate.
Pour chocolate in a dish or pan that can be put in the freezer. I used a round cake pan.
Line pan with foil or parchment if you want (I didn’t) and pop it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
A couple of small pieces is perfect for passing around the table after dinner.
Melt in your mouth, deliciousness. Enjoy!
(Wrap it in parchment or foil and keep it in the freezer (the fridge works too) because it starts to melt very quickly once it’s brought into room temperature.)
