Ingonish RCMP respond to single vehicle collision with serious injuries

Ingonish RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision in Ingonish early this morning where the driver involved suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Members of Ingonish RCMP, along with Ingonish Volunteer Fire Department, Ingonish Beach Volunteer Fire Department and EHS, responded to the collision on Beach Rd. shortly after 3 a.m.

The lone occupant of a Honda Civic, a 28 year-old man from Dingwall, had been driving when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with trees. He was thrown from the vehicle and pinned under it.

He was extracted from under the vehicle with the use of a backhoe from Parks Canada and transported by EHS to hospital where he was then airlifted to hospital in Halifax via Life Flight.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
