It’s that time of year again- 2015 CSA List!

IMG_3004Each year we update and re-post our list of CSAs that exist across the province and I’m  happy to report that it continues to grow each year! That being said, I wouldn’t deny that I may have missed something and if that’s the case, please let me know.

I will correct any errors or omissions as quickly as I can.

Curious if a CSA is right for you? Here’s an article about the pros and cons.  Ready to sign up?  The following is a list of some great CSA farms and other community supported food businesses around Nova Scotia. A few CSAs have neither a website nor a facebook page, in which case, I’ve linked to their email address.

Vegetable CSAs

Abundant Acres – Located in Hants County, with pick ups in Bedford, Fleming Heights, and downtown Halifax.  Expect to be certified in 2015.  Eggs from pastured hens are also available on the side.

Cochrane Family Farm– Located in Upper Stewiacke, drop offs in Brookfield, Truro, Mic Mac Mall, Dartmouth, and Musquodoboit, plus farm pickup.  We are in our 5th year of CSA and are Transitional Organic, full Certification to come in Summer of 2015.  Also have a meat and egg share of pasture raised, antibiotic free pork.  CSA season this year is 22 weeks with 2 sizes of shares available and then a weekly delivery option available after for seasonal products.   To sign up on line go to: http://www.cochranefamilyfarm.harvesthand.com

DK Fairn Farms– Located in Centreville and offer unsprayed vegetables with an option to add free range eggs, antibiotic free pork, and free range chicken. Pick-up sites in Berwick and at the farm in Centreville, June to December. Ph: (902)678-5669

Emily TeBogt’s Produce and Meat – Located in Grand Pre within the Annapolis Valley, offering pesticide and synthetic fertilizer free produce, free run eggs & pork and grass-fed beef & lamb. The CSA runs from mid June to December with pick up at the farm on Monday evenings from 5:30 – 6:00pm, or a limited number of shares are available at the Wolfville Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8:30 – 1:00. The large size share (8-10 items) is $27 per week, the medium size share is $20 per week, and the half size share (5-7 items) is $15 per week.

GoodLake Farm – Located in Southampton (between Parrsboro and Amherst). CSA options include a Basic 20 week ((with single and family options) as well as an 8 week season extension option that is purchased separately. Check website for delivery schedule, prices and sign-up.

Grass Roots Up- A cooperative CSA and Cow Share with Headquarters is in Cumberland County. Weekly deliveries are to Amherst, Tatamagouche, River John and New Glasgow and intermittently (~monthly) to Truro, Enfield, Halifax and Tantallon. For more info contact: info@grassrootsupcoop.ca

HighLand Farm – Located in Hants County, offering a 20 week (June-October) CSA with organic produce.  Drop-offs in Halifax (Local Source Market or Shambhala Centre) or pick up at the farm. Pricing and registration available on the website.

Hutten Family Farm – Located in the Annapolis Valley, with drop-offs in Halifax (Local Source Market), Kentville and the Wolfville Farmer’s Market. Shares are offered year-round with details on pricing and registration on their website.

Humble Hands Homestead– Located in the Annapolis Valley, with drop-offs in Cambridge, Coldbrook and Kentville (16 weeks- mid-June to Mid-October)

Ironwood -Located in Hants County, drop-offs in the Halifax area.

Moon Tide Farm- Located in Scots Bay, with single and family optoins available running from June to October (20weeks). Pick-ups from their farm stand, and from the Wolfville and Kentville Farmer’s Markets.

Moon Fire Farm – Located in Hants County,  with a CSA drop-off on Wednesday’s to the Grainery Food Co-op and the Healthy Bug  in Halifax. June-November.

Olde Furrow Farm – Located in Port Williams, drop-offs in Clayton Bark, Burnside, Port Williams, and at the Kentville Farmer’s Market. Small and large boxes available, with 10 or 20 week options. For registration contact: oldefurrowfarmers@gmail.com 

Preserving the Past–  A small local 3rd generation family farm. We use no chemicals to grow our produce, and we also offer chemical free, free range broilers.We may be able to deliver to the South Shore, & the Annapolis Valley.

Scenic Valley Farm – CSA in Central Cape Breton

Southfield Organics –Located in Hants County, with four convenient drop-offs in Tantallon, Timberlea and Bedford (2).  Farm Share CSA runs for 20 weeks and offers certified organic vegetables and herbs.

Snowy River Farms– drops offs in Middle Musquodoboit, Cooks Brook, Enfield, Dartmouth and Halifax and offers half and full veggie shares as well as meat and egg add ons.

Taproot Farms – Year round Veggie, Meat and Fruit CSA that has an extensive delivery drop-off  route.  Visit website for list of drop off locations.

Waldegrave Farm– Based out of Tatamagouche and offers certified organic produce. Pick-ups in Tatamagouche, Earltown and Truro.

Watershed Farm – Based on the South Shore, offers a student share in partnership with the Loaded Ladle at Dalhousie University.

Waxwing Farm – Located near Berwick. Offers a winter CSA (Oct-Feb) with pick-up at the Lunenburg Farmer’s Market and the Halifax Farmers’ Market.  Sign up by contacting us at waxwingfarm@yahoo.ca or calling 670-6303.

Whippletree Farm– Based out of Annapolis Royal, drop-offs in Annapolis Royal, Bridgetown and Middleton

Wysmykal Farm– Located in the Amherst area, with drop offs in Amherst and Sackville, NB (June-December).

Meat

Bruce Family Farm – Beef CSA that delivers to Halifax. For details visit website or contact (902) 665-2119

Wild Mountain Farm – not technically a CSA but offers pre-ordered meat delivery with pick-up locations in Halifax, Timberlea, Dartmouth, Porter’s Lake, Stewiacke and at the Wolfville Farmer’s Market.

Fish

Off the Hook Community Supported Fishery– A Fish CSA (or CSF) that provides hook and line caught haddock, and delivers to Halifax, Wolfville and Annapolis Royal

Prepared Meals

Flying Apron Cookery — Located in Tantallon

Bakery

Gold Island Bakery – Halifax-based bread delivery (done by bike!) in the fall and winter months.  Option to add cheese and baked goods.

Sweet Bres Boulangerie– A collection of vendors  have put together a CSB “Community Supported Bakery” with a wide variety of artisan bread, chocolates, cakes, prepared meals, and other goodies.

Kingsville Farm– Cape Breton based bakery supplying weekly breadbags to local customers, and at Mabou, Sydney, Antigonish and Whycocomagh Farmers Markets.

Sweet Bres Boulangerie– A collection of vendors who met this summer have put together a CSB “Community Supported Bakery” with a wide variety of artisan bread, chocolates, cakes, prepared meals, and other goodies.

Herbs

Briar Hill Herbal CSH (Community Supported Herbalism)- Located in Lunenberg County, this CSA offers a monthly selection of locally crafted, high quality medicinal herbal products that are available on a seasonal subscription basis. Membership in Briar Hill Herbal CSA is a great way to build up your home apothecary (herbal medicine cabinet) while exploring traditional ways of using medicinal plants to take ownership of your own health and well being.
