‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ and one of the Busiest Times at Halifax Stanfield

Halifax Stanfield is preparing for the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

The holiday season is one of the busiest travel times of the year at Halifax Stanfield, with both departing and arriving passengers as well as the many people who come to Halifax Stanfield to meet and greet. We expect a higher volume of traffic from December 19 to 24 and again from December 26 to January 7, with between 4,000-5,000 originating passengers departing Halifax each day during these busy holiday periods.

Here are some handy holiday travel tips:

Give yourself ample time

Allow extra time to accommodate winter driving conditions, find a parking spot at the airport, check-in with your airline and move through airport security. After check-in at the airport, it’s advisable to proceed immediately to security screening and allow a minimum of an hour after check-in to help prevent a missed flight.

Park with ease

There are a variety of parking choices and payment options at Halifax Stanfield. The covered parkade with pedway offers hourly and daily rates. In addition to the parkade, other parking options include the exterior parking lot in front of the terminal building, and the Park’N Fly lot.

For security reasons, vehicles cannot be left unattended at the curbside in front of the terminal building. Unattended vehicles will be towed.

Check your flight’s status

Airlines may adjust their flight schedules due to winter weather conditions here and/or elsewhere. Travellers are advised to check their airline’s website and/or visit www.halifaxstanfield.ca for the latest flight information.

Unwrap those carry-on presents

Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) recommends air travellers not wrap gifts being carried in carry-on baggage as their contents may need to be inspected. Instead, the Halifax Stanfield Tartan Team and airport employee volunteers will provide a gift wrapping service post security for those domestic passengers travelling to a non-stop destination.

The gift wrapping service will be available December 20-23 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Donations in support of Feed Nova Scotia will be collected at the gift wrapping station.

For the last-minute shopper, our many concessionaires have lots of goodies in store. Why not take a bit of Nova Scotia with you on your travels?!

Make a list, check it twice

CATSA screening officers are responsible for ensuring passenger security. Passengers themselves play an important role at checkpoints, as their cooperation and understanding help keep the screening lines flowing. In fact, Halifax Stanfield received its first of four CATSA Plus security lines on December 10. CATSA Plus is an innovative concept that combines the latest technology and processes. It involves replacing the standard screening lines with high-performance lines, designed to improve customer service and passenger flow while also enhancing security effectiveness.
