J. Albert Walker funeral home looks to add crematorium

J. Albert Walker Funeral home on Herring Cove Road is hoping to add a crematorium to its services. It has asked the city to allow it to develop a crematorium at 147 Herring Cove. The funeral home has been at 149 Herring Cove since 1962. In its proposal to the city, the funeral home says the rate of cremations in HRM has gone from less than 10 per cent in the 1980s, to nearly 85 per cent today.Gerard Daly, a consultant for the funeral home, told the Chronicle Herald on Feb. 21 that more people are seeking cremation. He also said the expansion cost would be "significant," though he didn't put a pricetag on it.
