Members of the unit will be monitoring vehicles to ensure they are properly clearing off their vehicles and driving appropriately for the road conditions. Motorists are reminded that winter driving conditions throughout HRM can vary dramatically and require the driver’s full attention.
The unit’s focus during December was ‘Operation Christmas.’ Checkpoints were conducted on a daily basis, targeting impaired drivers. It is estimated that in excess of 20,000 vehicles were checked during the campaign. During the month, members of the Traffic Unit wrote 403 Summary Offence Tickets, bringing the total number of tickets they issued in 2010 to 10,567.
