January vehicle/pedestrian collision statistics

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and Halifax District RCMP release a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.

During the month of January, there were 20 vehicle/pedestrian/bicycle collisions reported in Halifax Regional Municipality. Of the total collisions, one involved a bicycle. The remaining 19 incidents were vehicle/pedestrian collisions, with 19 pedestrian victims.​ Month over month, this represents a decrease of seven incidents from the 26 incidents reported in December 2018 and no change over the same time period in January 2018.

In January 2019, 57 per cent (11 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions occurred in crosswalks, which is the same as the 11 reported during this period in 2018.

Of the 19 pedestrians involved in reported collisions in 2019:

  • 2 experienced severe injuries
  • 3 experienced moderate injuries
  • 3 experienced minor injuries
  • 11 experienced no injuries
