Joico Color Balance Purple Shampoo: A Review

ombre hair, beauty blogger,

All my fellow lemon haired ladies out there know how frustrating it can be when your beautiful blonde locks take on unwanted yellow and brassy tones.
Having just added a substantial amount blonde color to my hair I was interested in how the purple shampoo would perform on my new golden locks.

ombre hair, shampoo for blondes, joico

With a perfect dose of “tone-correcting purple pigments and colour-protecting Multi-Spectrum Defense ComplexTM, Color Balance Purple” shampoo and conditioner from Joico instantly neutralizes yellow tones while you shower.  Designed to be used 2-3 times a week Joico’s purple shampoo claims to assist in tone correcting pigments while attaching to the hair fibers (and stay attached through multiple shampoos) while also protecting the color against fading. I mean you gotta wash your hair you might as well protect the color while you’re at it right?
THE CLAIM

Instantly neutralizes unwanted brassy/yellow tones in blonde/gray hair.
Tone-correcting pigments attach to the hair fibers + stay attached through multiple shampoos.
Multi-Spectrum Defense Complex helps protect colour against fading.
Bio-Advanced Peptide Complex delivers root-to-tip repair + protection for healthier hair with every use.
Boosts shine + reduces frizz.
THE VERDICT
Having not really colored my hair for a REALLY long time (it’s an even longer story, but let’s just say it didn’t go well) I’d never used purple shampoo before, but I had heard about it. I was familiar enough to know that it helps to remove the brassiness that can occur as your blonde hair color fades out a little.
Admittingly I am actually obsessed with my new blonde (er) hair (thank you Kelly McNeil), so I was pretty excited to give it a go.  Although I like the look of my hair I’m not really interested in going to the salon every other week for upkeep, so I pretty much want to find the laziest way to preserve my hair as possible.  Cue purple shampoo.

I’ve used the purple shampoo off and on for the past couple weeks, and I’m happy to report that I REALLY like it. It does make your hair feel very soft, and I would argue that it helps with frizz (an issue this girl struggles with on a daily basis). Truth be told I don’t wash my hair everyday, (again with the laziness) so it’s important to have a good base (shampoo and conditioner ) before putting my hair through the ringer of blow drying, and curling my hair.

BUY OR NOT TO BUY

BUY! Not only do I like it, but so does everyyyyyyyyyyone else! I’ve been getting so much positive feedback about my hair lately it’s crazy, and it’s only been getting better since I’ve been using this shampoo.

Honestly it’s say it’s a major win in my books! If you want to preserve your blonde locks (and keep your color and hair super soft) I’d for sure give this product a buy!
