July Wrap Up of the Halifax/HRM activities of the last month

  • The big story this month is Forever 21 is coming to HRM, specifically to Mic Mac Mall early 2013 in the Toys R Us location after their lease expires.
  • Target will be opening their 3 HRM stores in Late 2013 replacing the Zellers in Bedford Place Mall, Mic Mac Mall and Bayers Lake. The Zellers in Cole Harbour is already closed and the conversion to a small format WalMart
  • The Old Mill on Wyse Rd. in Dartmouth closed to make way for a large Sobeys that will replace the small outdated Primrose location.
  • Rumours are that H&M are looking to setup a Spring Garden road location
  • Ace Burger goes from Pop-Up to permanent in the Kitchen of Gus’ Pub
  • Roots in Spring Garden Place is moving to the Atlantic Photo Supply building on SGR and Birmingham, Atlantic Photo Supply has setup a new store front in City Centre and moved their production to Burnside.
  • After suspicions that Bark&Fitz was closing shop with the clearance sale and space being for lease, they did indeed close up shop.
  • Limoncello quickly has opened up in the space recently vacated on Birmingham by Love Me Boutique
  • It’s a pizza month in Halifax Tomasinos is back in business with original owner, Piatto started offering delicious Napoletana pizza up on the corner of Morris and Hollis, and Mothers Pizza is coming to the corner of Agricola and Young
  •  Word is that a new Tarek’s is opening in the Brewery Market
  • Orphan Books a new used bookstore for the frugally minded is opening on Agricola near the commons
  • La Senza in Bayers Lake is closing
  • Sugah! on the waterfront started offering up Beep slushies
  • Second Cup opens on Portland St. in Woodlawn, with Shoppers Drug Mart attached also opening
  • Habernos Modern Taco Bar from the folks that brought us Cheese Curds opens in Woodside
  • PetSmart and Wicker Emporium are opening in Bedford Commons
  • Bedford Place mall is getting a face lift for the arrival of Target
  • NSLC will be opening shop in  North End Halifax behind the Lawtons on Lady Hammond
  • The Works will be opening on Doyle St, adding to the gourmet burger trend
  • Tim Hortons is installing WiFi
  • Thai Ivory is opening a location on Sackville Dr
