Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and Halifax District RCMP release a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.
A total of 104 vehicle/pedestrian/bicycle collisions have been reported since January 1, 2018. Of the collisions, 17 involved a bicycle. The remaining 87 incidents were vehicle/pedestrian collisions, with 94 pedestrian victims. This represents a decrease of 17 (16.35%) vehicle/pedestrian collisions over the same time period in 2017.
Eight vehicle/pedestrian collisions were reported in June. Month over month, this represents a decrease of nine incidents from the 17 incidents reported in May 2018. Year over year, there was a decrease of 12 incidents from the 20 incidents reported in June 2017.
For January 1- June 30, 2018, 63.21% (55 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions occurred in crosswalks as compared with 68.26 per cent (71 incidents) reported during this period in 2017.
