Greetings from Lublin
Today was a day of very mixed emotions. First it was Emily’s birthday and so we all wished her Happy Birthday – sweet sixteen Emily. Then we drove to meet Natalia who is 15 and suffers from cystic fibrosis. Natalia was dreaming about having a new TV we brought her.
She’s not feeling well at the moment and she has to spend most of her time in the hospital. We really all enjoyed being together and we spent a nice time with her. After visiting Natalia we drove to visit the most beautiful castle of Łańcut and from there we went to deliver another dream to 17 year old Hubert who fights against the rare Ewing cancer and he also has a psychological impairment. Hubert’s wish was a new TV and a table for his room which we hope will brighten his life a little bit as he is in a very poor condition.
Then we were supposed to deliver a cell phone to Damian. Damian’s first wish, a computer, was fulfilled last February and when Karolina spoke to him last night he and his family were so happy we were coming and couldn’t wait to see us….When we arrived we were greeted by a neighbour who told us that Damian had suddenly, and so unexpectedly, passed away 2 hours before ….Damian was 17 years old and was suffering from bone cancer. He was always full of hope always thinking he would win the fight… It was very a hard experience for everybody.
We ended the day full of reflections and speaking about it helped us immensely. We thought about the good things in Damian’s life and then by the time the evening came we were ready to celebrate Emily’s birthday together.
Goodnight from Lublin
