Ken Dryden to join Geoff Regan

Ken Dryden, Member of Parliament for York-Centre will join Halifax West M.P. Geoff Regan for breakfast at Cora’s Restaurant in Bedford on Saturday, September 18th in support of a fundraising drive for Feed Nova Scotia.

“While we’re filling our bellies at Cora’s Saturday morning, there will be thousands of Nova Scotians hungry for a breakfast they can’t afford to have,” said Regan. “I commend the six participating Cora’s restaurants in Nova Scotia for their efforts to support our food banks and make sure everyone in this province can have a nutritious breakfast.”

Over 40, 000 Nova Scotians visit a food bank each month, and food bank use increased by 20% in 2009.

In July, Feed Nova Scotia issued a call for help when financial donations came to a halt. Cora’s has launched a campaign to raise money for Feed Nova Scotia by encouraging customers to donate a minimum of $2 to purchase a paper truck that can be signed and posted on a wall.

Every toonie raised moves $28 worth of food to a family in need and only five toonies feeds 10 people for a whole day. Each participating restaurant has set a goal of $3,000.

“Just a small donation can make a big difference in filling the fridges of families in need,” said Dryden. “I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to this fantastic initiative while visiting Nova Scotia.”

The Liberal MPs will be at Cora’s Restaurant, 1475 Bedford Highway, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Mr. Regan and Mr. Dryden want to encourage people to visit a participating Cora’s before September 30th and make a donation to support Feed Nova Scotia.
