Hyundai and Kia may have some a fellow rival nipping at their heels with the possibility of Korean automaker Ssangyong entering the U.S. market.
Ssangyong has apparently filed for U.S.
trademarks on the names “Luvent” and “Tivoli”. The latter is a small crossover vehicle that was recently unveiled in Korea and is meant to go head-to-head with the new Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trax and Mitsubishi RVR.
Luvent, according to Consumer Reports, will be a sedan and/or hatchback that will ride on the same platform as the Tivoli.
While Ssangyong’s current target market’s do not include the U.S., the Tivoli has apparently been designed to meet U.S. safety and emissions standards.
As of today’s date, there is no word on if Ssangyong is intending on entering the Canadian market as well.
