LANDS/FORESTRY–Nova Scotia Wildfire Crew Heading to Ontario
Nova Scotia has answered the call to help fight wildfires in Ontario.
A 21-person crew of wildfire fighters is leaving Halifax on Friday, July 5, and will spend two to three weeks on the fireline near Thunder Bay.
Nova Scotia’s assistance was requested through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.
Current fire conditions in Nova Scotia allow for resources to be shared. The Department of Lands and Forestry will ensure proper firefighting resources are maintained within the province.
Nova Scotia is a member of the Canadian Mutual Aid Resource Sharing Agreement, which ensures all provinces and territories will receive help if forest fires become too big to handle. The affected province covers the costs of the jurisdictions sending help.
In May, Nova Scotia sent 21 firefighters to help fight wildfires in Alberta.
