Last Comic Standing: Funny(ish) People

Monday night’s episode welcomed back the top ten comics that performed last week, but only for a few moments – three comics were sent to “Loser Junction, Kansas” due to last week’s vote. James Adomian, Laurie Kilmartin and Maronzio Vance were eliminated throughout the course of the episode. I was really disappointed to see Maronzio and James go – I thought they were both really funny last week. And with the likes of Jonathan Thymius and Felipe Esparza still kicking around, I’m not sure I like the direction the show is heading in.

The sets seemed really short this week, and I didn’t feel like I had much material to judge each comic. Here’s my thoughts on the performances:

Mike DeStefano performed first – I could have lived with him getting eliminated this week. I didn’t like him last week and, one again, I didn’t find him funny. I thought his soap joke was kind of funny, though. Naturally, the judges loved him. Next up was Roy Wood Jr., who was very funny. I liked the stuff about student loans. Myq Kaplan followed him up, and once again I was impressed. I didn’t like Myq in his earlier auditions, but since the live shows I’ve really liked him.

Rachel Feinstein looked fantastic this week, and she also happened to be really funny. I like all the voices Rachel does, and her impression of the Vegas “douche” was spot-on. Tommy Johnigan followed, and he had me laughing with his stuff about break-ups and cars. He and Rachel are both becoming a couple of my favorites in the competition. Unfortunately I stopped laughing right after the hilarious duo because Felipe Esparza came next. Ugh. I just can’t see what’s funny about that guy. I liked his Guitar Hero joke, though. So I guess that’s something.

Jonathan Thymius closed out the show – though I felt he was completely undeserving to do so. I do not get his humor AT ALL. The best I could say about his set was that he didn’t include bodily functions this time.

One comic will be eliminated next week, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’ll be either Jonathan or Felipe. Which comic do you think deserves to get the boot? Who are your favorites?
