Learn about the importance of public works and HRM’s public works professionals as part of National Public Works Week 2013. Learn what they do and how they do it! See Sammy Snow Plow up close; climb a tree like an urban forester; pretend you’re a bus driver; meet Moby S. Loop, RRFB Nova Scotia’s recycling robot; learn how a street sweeper works; and much more!
 
 
National Public Works Week 2013 is May 19 to the 25, highlighting the essential role that public works plays in our community. HRM is celebrating the week and its employees who make a difference by showcasing municipal service equipment and hosting displays and activities for children P-6 on the Halifax Commons near the Emera Oval, Thursday, May 23 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. (Rain Date: May 24). Greenhouse staff will show how to pot a seedling, HRM arborists will demonstrate tree climbing; and Moby S. Loop—the recycling robot from the Resource Recovery Fund Board—will also be in attendance. FREE Sammy Snow Plow Bracelets for everyone! School groups and children accompanied by parents welcome.
