Led By Epstein, MLA’s Speak Out Against Occupy NS Eviction

Members of the provincial legislature have come forward to voice remorse at how Halifax city council implemented the Occupy Nova Scotia evictions from Victoria Park on November 11.

In a motion made by NDP MLA Howard Epstein, members of the Legislative Assembly voted unanimously on Monday to make an official statement on the handling of the Occupy events. Epstein even went so far as to tell CBC News that  "Council were a bunch of sneaks."

Epstein also expressed how councillors who voted in favour of eviction may not have fully grasped what they were agreeing to in terms of how the evictions were carried out, and that continued talks and negotiations would have been a better course of action.

He also told CBC that a municipal by-law should not have overshadowed a Charter right such as freedom of expression.

We want you to weigh in Haligonia: Now that the provincial government has decried the handling of the Occupy evictions as a poor one, do you think it will pressure Mayor Kelly to re-think the actions of council?
