Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 (Halifax, NS) – Residents are advised of work that will take place over the next few weeks in District 3 Dartmouth South – Eastern Passage and District 4 Cole Harbour – Westphal, to convert traditional streetlights to new energy efficient LED streetlights.
Contracted utility crews and traffic control personnel will be working on-street in both districts, generally during daytime hours. Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to slow down when approaching these work sites; traffic control personnel will be on-site to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the site as needed.
During this work, motorists and cyclists should expect minor traffic disruptions for short durations on-street throughout the area. The municipality will provide regular updates regarding expected disruptions as the work progresses through the district.
The ongoing streetlight replacement is part of a two-year LED streetlight conversion project that will result in all 44,000 municipally-owned streetlights being converted to LED technology by the end of December 2017. Contracted crews have already completed conversion of streetlights in a number of districts across the region, as we recently passed the halfway point this project.
