lego® duplo® 30 days of play challenge! (so far…)

One of the most incredible aspects of the LEGO® DUPLO® 30 Day Challenge was seeing this. Little boys, doing what they do best, together. And mostly without any fighting…but let’s be real. The best part of LEGO for a 2 year old is smashing over big brother’s enormous towers, right?

Yes there have been lots of tears, lots of lego thrown across the room denting my walls and floors (and foreheads a couple of times) but it’s been so much fun AND I have tons of beautiful candid pictures of my boys playing together where they are completely oblivious to me clicking away.

We’ve learned about patterns, numbers, how to make things “go” and for me, it’s been a great reminder to get down on the floor more often to sit, enjoy and quietly watch my boys’ imaginations run wild. The idea of the Lego Challenge was to inspire parents and children to come up with new ways to play, so with gentle (and minimal) direction I was able to show them a picture of the challenge and then let them come up with their own versions.

Sometimes Dad would get in there, but 99% of the time the boys didn’t want anyone telling them how to build anything or offer up ideas on using different colors or pieces or god forbid, TOUCH their creations. That has been a big no-no.

We’d just show them the challenge and they’d get busy.
